The course consists of three segments: theory, online meeting, and two open water dives with mermaid tails:
•Online e-learning: Learn independently via PADI Advanced Mermaid eLearning. (Since the eLearning is in English, extra online sessions can be provided if needed.) Learn the differences between open water and pool environments, marine life, freediving physiology as a mermaid, mermaid swimming techniques, and additional open water safety knowledge. Each chapter includes review questions to test your understanding, which must be completed to pass the theoretical section.
•Online Meeting: A 1-hour session to review the materials and any questions. Then open water practice begins. Online theory sessions are held on Wednesdays from 18:00 to 20:00, allowing us to review the key topics together before the weekend's practical training. We recommend going through the materials beforehand so you can come prepared to discuss the most important points. If you happen to miss a live session, don't worry—the recordings will be available for you to watch anytime. Please make sure to complete the online exam at the end of the chapters before the practical training begins. In rare cases, session times may change; if this happens, we will notify you well in advance.
•Open Water Dive and exam: Warm-up and stretching on land. Assemble equipment, learn proper water entry with a mermaid tail. Total 4x45 minutes in the water. Practice safe weighting, deep dive, equalization, securing and rescuing each other during loss of motor control or underwater fainting. Underwater video recordings are made and edited with music for you after the course.
•Requirements for successful passing:
o Passing the theoretical exama
o Active buddy supervision and rescue (LMC and underwater blackout rescue from a depth of 5–10m)
o Equalizing between 5–10m
o SProper mermaid diving to 5–10m
Most students complete all the certification requirements during the course, but if for any reason you don't, no worries—you can finish them later! You have up to one year to complete everything, which you can do with me or with any PADI Mermaid Instructor worldwide. Once you have successfully met all the requirements, you will receive your PADI digital certification, which will be available on your profile.
After completing the PADI Advanced Mermaid course, you are qualified to dive up to 10 meters anywhere in the world with a dive buddy of equal or higher certification level.
