The course consists of three segments: theory, online meeting, and two protected water dives in a mermaid fin:
•Online e-learning: Learn independently using the PADI Basic Mermaid eLearning. (If English is not known, extra online lessons can be arranged.) You will learn the origins and culture of mermaid diving, equipment usage, and basic safety. Each chapter ends with review questions to test your knowledge.
•Online meeting: About 1-hour discussion of the material and questions before pool practice. Online theory sessions are held on Wednesdays from 18:00 to 20:00, allowing us to review the key topics together before the weekend's practical training. We recommend going through the materials beforehand so you can come prepared to discuss the most important points. If you happen to miss a live session, don't worry—the recordings will be available for you to watch anytime. Please make sure to complete the online exam at the end of the chapters before the practical training begins. In rare cases, session times may change; if this happens, we will notify you well in advance.
•Confined water session and exam: Start with dry warm-up and stretching. Assemble equipment, learn correct water entry with a mermaid fin. Spend 2x45 minutes in a 2-meter pool learning safe weighting, mermaid swimming techniques on the surface, basic self-rescue, then combine with diving. Learn correct breathing, basic equalization, underwater swimming techniques with and without mask, buddy safety, and proper water exit. Underwater video recordings are made and edited with background music a few days after the course.
•Requirements for successful passing:
o Passing the theoretical exam
o Self-rescue (backfloat and cramp release in a mermaid tail)
o SProper underwater mermaid diving (diving and breathing techniques)
o Diving and maintaining directional control with no mask
o Active buddy procedure
Most students complete all the certification requirements during the course, but if for any reason you don't, no worries—you can finish them later! You have up to one year to complete everything, which you can do with me or with any PADI Mermaid Instructor worldwide. Once you have successfully met all the requirements, you will receive your PADI digital certification, which will be available on your profile.
